Been thinking about this some more...

I like the cool ideas flowing in and I hear what Scionshade is saying about the name... But the guy really does want to be called the Arbor barber. He even has a personalized plate....

The reason I made a forum topic is because he competes intree climbing competitions. So I bragged and said wow.. I belong to a community that also competes.. they have a competition everyday.

they are awesome.. I was like shoot fire... I'll put it out to my community about how you are looking around for a logo. And we'll see what we can come up with.

So that's how it started... He's very overwhelmed with everything that has to be done with business and I was just going to toss some ideas at him to help him out.

Sometimes helping a nice person out is the right thing to do.

Believe me I know in a normal situation logos can be 10,000 or more to brand a product and get things going...

This is not a situation like that.. It was me trying to show this guy what a cool place I hang out at. I guess that was kind of addressing what doc had mentioned...about noone would want to do it.

So I feel excited that the ideas are rolling in.. I feel like a proud mom that is getting ready to brag.

Thanks everyone!
Kathy

Thanx Kansas Wink

I actually think the arbor name is quite apt, i assume he got it from arboriculture

Code:
 arboriculture

n : the cultivation of tree for the production of timber [syn: tree farming]
n : The planting and care of woody plants, especially trees.

I suppose you could make the tree look like a barber pole too.

I did this kinda quick, but if he likes it I can change things up a bit.

There are some sweet logos coming in. I would attempt it but I've got zero graphics art training. I really like the one that Meaty did. How's it look in B/W or grayscale for letterhead? (I'm too lazy to play with it).

Dp's tree is actually p[erfect-- You HAVE to consider that WHEN this guy gets his truck lettered-- it will be done with vinyl, also the solid black is fantastic--
he could go w/ a deep forrest green, but I'd limit my choices to those two colors-
IMHO if this is DP's work and not a registered logo--use it...use it
if it is copywrit, just make something that looks 99% just like it...chop yer own version.

Canucks emblem is well done, but
"showcasing" the REMOVAl of a tree has negative connotations.
An arborist job is to tend to trees,
playing executioner is just a necessary evil we
avoid where posible.

Like 'barber' refference to another profession...
there is no shame in being an "arborist'...

If the guy must go with "Arbor Barber"....
I'd talk to him about paying Meaty for this-- it is EXCEPTIONAL...
THAT WILL LOOK VERY PRO on his truck.
HELL.....the name don't look bad when presented like this.
Extremely professional MEATY.

Hence the "A LITTLE off the top."

My brother was an arborist. This guy will love it, especially since he does climbing competitions - trust me.

Yeah Scion...it's mine...not a registered logo anywhere lese that I know of...I just thought it looked a little too much like a bonsai, that's all...And that's what I was thinking of...something simple that can easily be used for lettering on vehicles that can easily be used for business cards, letterhead and assorted other shtuff. Simple, clean.

All the logos look great, and I know Scion's got a leg up as this is his profession.

IMHO, DP's will work best for the guy -- b/w, sharp image-- nobody's got to guess what the guy does for a living.

Meaty's is really excellent, but almost looks like a sign for a B&B or quaint inn.

or...just keep looking for some more ideas...

my 2 cents...

After reading Scion's comments about no one knows what an arbor was, I assumed it was just him that didn't know this ( Wink ), so I didn't say anything about it. But after seeing what some of you guys have said, I have to say that where I live, there are tons of arborists that are called arborists and have "arbor" in their name. So, I have to say that having "arborist" in your company's name is beneficial; It actually makes people more apt to hire you because it sound more professional, instead of dumbing it down for people who don't know what an arborist is. People are less likely to hire a company called "Tree Pruners" or "Branch Whackers" or some dopey name. Arbor Barber actually incorporates the best of both aspects (friendly professional).
Just my 2 cents.
