Considering that the pen tool and it's drawn paths can be used in cunjunction with any brush tool including the clone stamp. I'd ditch the clone stamp in a heartbeat to keep the pen tool. I do very little clone stamping that can't also be accomplished with the healing brush. Never underestimate the power of Stroke Paths.
