Check out these pictures of an abandoned amusement park.

Too bad there aren't higher-res shots available. They'd make some nice sources and/or externals.

Those are great.

I was actually thinking I should go to Coney Island during the winter and take some pics. It's not abandoned, but I'd imagine things are pretty shut down and deserted in the off-season. (even during the summer when the place is busy, it has this slightly sad, dilapidated vibe).

(if we ever get winter, that is... it's supposed to get up to 70 this weekend!)

Pirates World

Those pictures reminded me so much of this place, when I was a kid, Pirates World was way better than Disney World, (because Disney did not exist back then) anyway, around the time I graduated from HS, pirates world had closed down, my older brother had told me that he and some friends had snuck in at night, and that it was like an old ghost town, and really creepy, so I went to bed and had dreams of this place at night, wondering what it would be like, then about 6 months later, I ended up going out there, and it was ten times better than any dream I could of had, it was exactly the same but only real, I so wish that I had brought a camera with me after all these years, because the images in my head are still so strong, the black and white pictures in the link don't show much, but to get an idea of the size of this place, in the 2nd picture, to the right of the concrete poll, it looks like 3-4 silos, those were giant slides about 4 stories high, imagine spinning down one of those things in the night, not knowing if anything was in there, Shocked they tore it all down shortly after that, Crying or Very sad the moral of the story here? Get a camera, and capture the moment Wink

Those were great pics Tofu, thanks. Very Happy

I saw the first set at least a year ago. Seems that the park was in Japan. If I remember correctly, The park was closed because other parks with newer faster rides gobbled their market share.

While on the subject of amusement parks, I saw recent video of Neverland Ranch. It is turning to sh*t. The grass looked like hell and the foliage is all but dead. I guess that's what happens when an army of maintenance workers goes unpaid for a few months. They said the whole property has been discounted and must be unloaded to pay debts.

Cool pictures Tofu, really freaky misty stuff going on.

Theres a link off it too for the evolution of the home games system, now I know Atari made quite a few systems in the 70's & 80's, but jesus, was it 1 a week at one point Laughing

I was surprised to see a few obscure relics including the Fairchild and the Vectrex. The Vectrex played asteroids and qix plus a few cheesy vector games exactly like the arcade versions. I've only seen a handful of them in my life. I actually spent a week at an aunts house playing one with my cousins. The screen was sorta like an early mac.

The only one of those from that whole list that I've ever owned was intellivision. The controllers went to sh*t after a few months of abuse. I suppose it was for the good. It saved me mountains of money not having to fork out 45 bucks for carp cartridges that weren't as good as atari games.

Haven't really cared much for video games since.

That's more my speed... I'd rather pound on a pinball machine.

They are a few miles down the street from my pad. They have an amazing collection of just about any pinball made including space shuttle and comet!

Heh, had to google for that one.

No.

My ol'lady plays online at pogo. She's into word whomp and some of the more cerebral games. That's about the extent of gaming at my pad. Personally, I'd rather look at pornography.

aaah-- the Atari 2600 Very Happy
My first video game system. That thing rocked.

I still have this one:

and it still works Laughing

It's pretty temperamental and the only games I have are tetris and super mario 2, but every once in a while when I'm feeling nostalgic I get it out and play with it.
