creatrix wrote: Cheryl, I can certainly understand how you came to your... conclusions(?).
My personal belief is there is a collective consciousness we call "God" and that we - as parts of the universe - are the driving force behind the bad as well as the good. I'm not saying that we are gods, but rather that God is our sum total. Thinking like this enables me to explain things like the power of prayer and positive thinking, "ESP," deja vous, the connection between twins, and some of the more bizaare coincidences of history (I suspect that the equillibrium will turn out to be involved some how - too many weird coincidences happen at sea.....). If thought, like gravity, is a particle/force, we would be driving the bus without even knowing it. Just a (weird) theory, but one I thought worth sharing.
I see where your coming from. I do think we are the driving force behind a lot of the problems, but it still bothers me that God doesn't intervene when you have used ever inch of your prayer and faith. I do put my faith in the mind. I know it is capable of great things and that is what explains those things for me As far as those weird things that happen at sea, well, it could really be anything that contributed to those disappearances or what have you and I have read stories about it and some say things happen and others say the opposite, it's kind of like the whole God thing, nothing seems to have a solid straight line when it comes to the unexplained, unfortunately. But; the mind has proven it's capabilites over and over again.
I do want to believe but certain things hold me back. It's funny because I asked my 6 year old daughter how come she believes in God and she says because I just do and I said but why and she said because he has a family, pretty inspiring if you ask me, but yet I still sit here on the fence

If God created the earth, the heavens and all of us, who created God? He just appeared out of thin air?

This tidbit about Hindus...
All Hindus observe Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, in the Fall. Worshipers of Vishnu observe Vishnu's birthday in the summer and Ram Navami (nine days for Rama) in the spring. Worshipers of Shiva observe Shivaratri (Shiva's holy night) in the winter. Worshipers of Shakti observe Navaratri (nine nights of the goddess) in the fall. Each group has numerous other holidays that honor events in their god or goddesses lives, or times of change during the year.

I'd sure like to see the .psd's on that one.
I'm still f-ing amazed that abortion is so evenly divided in America. Any input about that nasty little buisness from European choppers? How about our South American pals? I'm surprised this hasn't really come up yet.
Personally, I feel that abortion is indeed taking a life. However, I would never consider forcing my beliefs on anyone. Especially a scared pregnant girl who knows in her heart she cannot take care of a child.

So..I start primary school at 4 and a half years old and immediately get scolded for not closing my eyes, putting my hands together and joining in with the rest of the class.
First visit to the dinner-hall and I got bopped on the head with a ladle from the head dinner-lady for not doing what I was supposed to.
I was really shy and scared of all adults at the time but still managed to pipe up that I didn't know what was going on.
I somehow managed to explain evertything well enough for my mum to understand. She then gave me the idiots guide to christianity and I just thought it was impossibly ludicrous.
I learned the Lord's prayer in a Pop Warner League football huddle. I was mortified because everyone else on the team recited it as if just going through the motions and i'd never heard it before.
