I've got CS2. I'm working through this tutorial . I'm at the part where it says:
Quote:
Working on your new document change the Mode to Greyscale.
Image >> Mode >> Greyscale
A dialogue box appears..."Discard color information?"...Click OK.

Now change the Mode to Bitmap.
Image >> Mode >> Bitmap
A dialogue box appears..."Flatten layers?"...Click OK.

The image mode for bitmap is greyed out for me. Sad

It appears that I'm stuck. Any solutions from the PSC Gurus?

make sure you're in Grayscale mode 8 bits per channel (at the bottom of the Image Mode menu), not 16

First document is RGB 8-bit. I duplicate the layer to a new document. New document is also RGB 8-bit.

So I then did the greyscale step. Works just as outlined. Next I do the bitmap and..

IT WORKED!

Vokaris you are my hero! Very Happy

First time through I did indeed have it at 16-bit. Now the question as to why this doesn't work at 16-bit? Mainly a curiosity thing at this point.

this is straight from the horse's mouth (i.e. PS CS2 help - converting images to Bitmap mode)

Images in Bitmap mode are 1 bit per channel. You must convert a 16‑ or 32‑bits-per-channel image to 8‑bit Grayscale mode before converting it to Bitmap mode.

the reason why you can't do it is cos you touch yourself at night Razz

Ya see what i did there.. oh ok then...

What ya gotta do to change your image modes is...

go through greyscale...

bitmap mode has no colour

yes i knoww what your thinking why is that...

perhaps you should pray for an answer to that...

or maybe this will help

Pixel depth

A. 1-bit (Bitmap)
B. 8-bit (Grayscale)
C. 8-bit (Indexed Color)
D. 24-bit (RGB)
