1. What's the service tag/serial # of the machine? You can lookup drivers on Gateway's website using that number
2. What operating system (OS) are you running on the computer (XP Home, XP Pro, Vista)? If Vista what version?
3. Did you upgrade the OS from a previous version?
4. Is this a laptop/notebook or a desktop?
5. Have you tried uninstalling the device in the device manager and then letting the OS redetect it?
6. Do you have the CDs/DVDs that came with the system when it was new? Often times the drivers are on one of those disks.

In Gateway's defense, the one my brother got kicks ass and they are still way better than an HP. I had similar sound issues with my HP, but the "customer service" of HP is on par with Comcast. (that's a bad thing.)

I had the same experience with Gateway on my notebook. I went all the way to corporate for a BIOS flash and they still wouldn't give me one.
