Waiting in anticipation got me wondering where the story comes from, because I vaguley recall watching the not so new 'new' spiderman cartoon series when I was a bit younger and seeing venom (possibly the best bad guy, ever, ever). So i came across the original cartoon series' 'venom saga' which was basically the story of venom and carnage and everything in between. Anyway, the movie is based on this 8-part saga of the series and if anyone wants to pretend theyre a kid again and check out the story then here they are:

http://www.tv-links.co.uk/show.do/2/158

3rd link down, all 8 parts are there. Yeah I saw the cartoon again and it kicked ass the second time too Laughing watch it if your bored, your life may depend on it!

Liability notice: Your life will never depend on this

Acutlaly Venom came from the comic book long before there was a spicer man cartoon series....

He's going to be an awesome villan, though. Sometimes it's the darkness inside us all that scares us the most...

Confused Laughing

Actually, the symbiotic costume (that along with Eddie Brock are Venom) came from the Secret Wars saga. Spidey brought it from the planet where a lot of marvel heroes, including himself, were transported to. Quoting wikipedia:

"Spider-Man encountered a symbiotic creature on the planet that enveloped him and expressed itself as a new black costume which produced its own web supply. Spider-Man initially thought that the creature was an advanced synthetic costume produced by an alien machine; it wasn't until after almost a year of continuity in the Spider-Man comics that Peter Parker discovered the true nature of the creature, as it tried to take over Parker's body and bond permanently with him. Spider-Man was able to rid himself of the creature with the help of Reed Richards The creature subsequently escaped from the Fantastic Four's headquarters and tricked Spider-man into wearing it again, only to be rejected once more, where it eventually found and bonded with Eddie Brock to become the supervillain Venom."

Venom
Vs
Spiderman

Its diiffficult to say.

the symbiote "retains all powers and abilities of the previous owners.)

So venom has the edge not only does he mimic all of spidermans powers and boost them but he also can evade parkers spidey sence. Rendering him a non dot on spideys map. Venoms weakness is Loud noises.. a super sonic sound will severly hamper venoms chances of winning.

So the matchup would look like this...

Spidey vs Venom anywhere without noise.. spidey looses...Venom can pounce on him unseen for the stealth victory because he is stronger and faster and undetectable.

Spidey vs venom in a loud room (like a generator room or near an aircraft taking off.) Even a low flying aircraft or earth quake could generate enough volume to dislodge venoms clear advantage.

other matches...
Dark pheonix... She can be beaten but by who.

I read Mad magazine...
Mad was long noted for its absence of advertising, enabling it to skewer the excesses of a materialist culture without fear of advertiser reprisal.
I liked that!

I have to agree with Azionite on this one.

And reading it is better than watching it, because you get better story telling and you get Tod McFarlane's then-highly innovative drawings.
