sunk his own battleship the second he realized it...Kudos to Alex...very cool.

But doesn't this hilight the practice of, basically, "sandbagging" on an entry? In other words a power chopper is matched up against someone like me. Since they know I'm not very good the power chopper only does just enough to beat me. Seems like it's a little disrespectful to not put in your full effort just because you're playing the third string.

would you kill a fly with a nuclear bomb tofu?

I totally understand your point. But I don't agree with that analogy being the correct in this instance
....
Plus I don't think it shows PSC's talent in a good light if all the chops are half-assed jobs just to get through to the next round.

deshone wrote:
It has all to do with knowing who your opponent is ... and in your example if i would underestimate a newbie and he or she would kick my ass then it's my own fault ... but i would never underestimate against a chopper like Alex ...

Here's another analogy: I understand that if you're driving a souped-up racecar, you may not feel like you have to burn rubber and drive at full throttle to win a race against a moped, but can you at least gas it up and take us for a ride?

What is one of my pet peeves and really irks me in any contest is when a really good chopper is sloppy. In the instance of the racecar, it could be clipping parked cars along the side of the road. Specifically in a chop, that would be leaving rough edges or showing an ill-fitting use of the polygonal lasso tool around pieces of a basic cut-and-paste. Getting the edges smooth is one of the first things most newbies learn on the way to learning how to integrate different objects into one image. I understand if you don't want to spend the time getting all the lighting and shadowing to be accurate, especially if your opponent obviously has trouble with that (i.e. me), but PLEASE smooth your edges when everyone knows you really should know how!

Anfa, on behalf of Cheryl and myself (since we don't know which of us won Round 1 yet), please ignore the previous statement... feel free to be as sloppy and lazy as you'd like and phone it in next round! Wink

Yeah... I'm cool. Very. Fugue too. Raising Brow

And btw caf... I don't think desh played it sloppy. Do you see a sloppy entry in that match up? He would've just liked to know who he was facing, like everyone else. Then, he could've done things a bit diffrently, or not. Cuz IMHO, his chop is the best.

That's all.

I wasn't pointing fingers, Alex. It was more a general comment spurned by the issue Tofu raised earlier. For what it's worth, I very much liked both chops in the Desh/TRD match-up. I know Desh could have done even better, but I think it would have beaten TRD, if TRD's skill level was really represented by the associated portfolio.

Edit: Actually, I'm still only guessing Desh could have done even better and which one must have been his, based on his own comments... I could very well be wrong.

Ooops: Thinking of wrong contest.

The chalk outline looks the best in that one.

Edit #2: Why is Deshone's entry already showing up in his portfolio? And I really had that one pegged as TheRealDeal's entry. Looks like someone got a little lazy.

Many good points made in this thread. Alex came clean and that's all that matters. I'm boiling the tar and plucking the chicken as I type. Wink

Like Alex, I wondered if I would have enough time to participate, but as a mod, I felt I should. Like Alex, I am a slow chopper. I only hope to be eliminated early with some dignity left. While I may not agree with what Alex did, I certainly can understand why he did it.

In all fairness to deshone, or any other "experienced chopper" I don't think anyone should be blasted for not posting "their best". Perhaps deshone had a lot of job responsibilities heaped upon him on Monday...or his personal life got busy. At least he posted, and didn't pull a 'no show'.

Just my two cents.
*puts soapbox away*

ive come out of lurking to say a couple things.

this is most fucked up thing i have seen on this site in a LONG time.

the H2H is the super bowl (world cup for you foreigners) of PSC. you come up with this brilliant plan to disguse yourself to do what? to TRICK and DECEIVE long time, upstanding members of this community.

there has been alot of trickery and shenanigans on this site, but this takes the cake.

you have destroyed, in my opinion, the greatest event of PSC for this year. people wait and wait, get excited, work HOURS and HOURS on their post, and have such a sense of accomplishment when they post, they can't get the smile off of their face.

for you, who was once an excellent member here, to do this, is absolutely DISGUSTING. if i was a moderator of this site, i would not think twice to permanently ban you and delete every single post you have made. Not only your images, but every vote, comment, and post in a thread. you would be wiped from the PSC history books and cast down into hell, figuratively speaking.

who are you to say that im wrong?

people who poured blood, sweat and tears into the H2H have to deal with this? a horrible joke, which now desh is a part of? he did not ask for this. he was manipulated into thinking he was going up again an amateur chopper.

if i were desh, i would have posted something like this.

we dont know who this member is. will he take his prizes and run? sell his lifetime advantage on ebay? he could be a crook.

but alex is not a crook. he is something more. evil, manipulating, and only lives to hurt others on this community.

Ooohhhhhhh Chicken's gonna like that! Twisted Evil

My last point (I hope) that I just thought of. The original matchups are based on PSCore. So to create an alias basically screws up all of the matchups/brackets as some some may have been paired with a totally different opponent.

In the end I'm just glad that Alex realized the problem and came clean early.
