also, if you're serious about this, get a serious camera, the new Nikon i suggest the D40 is great to start.
I use a Canon D20, which cost me about $2800 when all was said and done (about 1 1/2 years ago)
I love it and only wish I could afford the D5!
other than the zoom thing... You also mentioned you shoot in dark situations... just this alone can increase noise. It's almost like film cameras... if you need to shoot in a dark situation, you use 1600 ISO film, but it is grainier. If you change your ISO on your digital camera, the image will have more noise. Going to a better camera will help that some!
Hi Calgary! Watch out for those thunder storms!
D20 is a great camera and you can get them for around a $1000 CAN now. I use the D30... having stepped up from a D20.
As far as the D5 goes, I'd save my money. A good friend of mine bought one and when the images were compared with my D30 (same image system as the D20) there was hardly any gain in image quality. Certainly not $2000+ improvment!
Again: it is the one looking through that little hole (or in non-pro cameras looking at the LCD display) that ends up making a good capture.
And, I grudgingly admit, that SOME Nikon users can (under certain mystical circumstances) take a good picture with a Nikkor stuck on the front!
