Photoshop Contest Forum Index - New Users - Does anyone know how to restore faded writing from old pic? - Reply to topic

Hello, I am also new here and have receieved quite a large number of old photos dated 1800's, 1900's from our family members for our family tree. We are trying to enhance faded writing on the back of some of the pictures, but to no avail. Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated here.

Thanks,

Exactly. Without an example picture, it's difficult for us to help you. One thing that can help in these situations is to duplicate the layer and then change the top layer from "Normal" to "Multiply", but once again, we need to see an example pic.

Thanks for such a quick reply...I will get this picture and send it..It is not readable when I print it out..Only by the naked eye...but certainly will try.

Thanks,
Ella

I would scan in the back of the photos and play around with the levels on your scanner, maybe the gamma to make it darker, even try scanning it in different modes, line art, bw, etc. adjusting levels, then maybe you can see it or can play around with it more in Photoshop after you've scanned it in.

The center is more faded than the rest, and is therefore more difficult to read. ethumpDOTcom/images/WeddingCert.jpg
