I was wondering if anyone has any tips in changing an object from a dark color to a lighter color. Like changing a purse from a dark brown to a pale blue.

If you are using Photoshop, then there are a few ways to do it.

1) mask around the purse (in this example) and then use the Hue/Saturation filter to change the hue of the purse. Note that any other colours on the purse will shift too, so this is only as good as your masking.
If you REALLY want to do this pro, you can us an ADJUSTMENT LAYER (that 1/2 black, 1/2 white circle at the bottom of your LAYERS palette) to do the above. That way the original image is not changed permanently! AND if you learn to paint on the ADJUSTMENT LAYER's mask you find a whole world of Very Funky colour tweaking available. Wink

2) Under IMAGE - ADJUSTMENTS there is a funky thing called REPLACE COLOUR (CS, CS2, CS3 I believe has this feature). With it you can use an eyedropper to select the colour on your image you want to shift. Then you move a slider or two (much like the Hue/Saturation module) to shift the colour and density/lightness of it until you are happy.

3) masking the purse (mask mask mask) again, you could then open a layer ABOVE your purse layer and then fill it with a new colour. Then, you could play with the BLEND MODE at the top left of the LAYERS palette and see what happens to your purse. Different blend settings do very different things.

Hope this helps!

Yeah I've tried those. It just keeps turning out very flat because it's such a big color move. I was hoping there would be a quick way of doing it. But I guess I would really have to go in and mask all of the stiching and everything and do each piece separatly so it doesn't get flat...Right?

AHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GET TO IT DEVELOPMENT TEAM! My last demand is still not yet met and HERE we HAVE yet ANOTHER !
HERE I GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listen closely. We have restrictions on what new members can post in forums because of those awful awful spammers.
(i should be using this time to work on The Syndicates Coolab, so pay attention)................
This is at least like the fortieth time a new person was unable to post images..we didn't have a problem with spammers posting images,
and these people showing up wanting to know stuff and needing to post the exmples or sources is "PART" of what PSC is.
allow image attachments... jpg at least.
Thank You!!
