Hello,
I have a picture with no background that i want to put on a website. I saved it in .png to keep the transparancy but it's too heavy (330k). What about jpg2000? Is it better to save transparancies?
Thank you all for your help.
Thierry

jpeg2000 is unfortunately not supported (yet) by most browsers (if not all, but not sure of that) (unless you have some plug in installed which can show these)

So I would certainly advise against using it for your site

So unfortunately if you want to keep that transparency to a high level I'm afraid you're stuck with png

Yes Grefix, you're right. Here is what i'm doing now: i re-save my .jp2 in .png: the quality is still acceptable and i'm at 220k.That's better, but still a bit too heavy...

Hi...have you tried slicing it up...then you can assign higher compression and less dither to areas that can take it...and lower compression and higher dither to areas that need more ?

Depends on where you're at and what the site's criteria are.

Still I would think 220 would be ok. That would take what 4-5 seconds to download on a dial-up?

More like 20-30 seconds on a dial-up (56 kbps = 7 KBps)

I think that the re-saving .jp2 and .png is not bad. i'm now at 184k. i'm trying to find the right balance between quality and bit depth.
I will show you when the page is online.
Thanks for your help Smile
