I think this is just as stupid as all those other junk emails people keep sending. As soon as you dial that number you will be on the list of numbers they WILL send out to all the mailing lists

Its a fake!

I remember getting this dire warning from my dad a few years ago. I pointed him to the websites for the FTC and the FCC. At the time they both had on there that it was a hoax based on a half-truth.

That's crazy......who is releasing the numbers??......is that not a violation of your contract??.....it would seem that if the phone company releases your number to telemarketers, that would somehow make it illegal to charge you for such calls. I say this because the phone numbers are private lines.....in other words, finding out who called form a cell is almost impossible for the public....most reverse number look-ups only tell you who the Service carrier is.

the lines are also charged per call....in other words......you cant call 1-800 #'s for free.....and if you use it for 10 seconds or 55 seconds....it charged you a MINUTE, They always round up...... so that would cost you, not the Telemarketer who is on a landline. That has to be Illegal. Confused

Sounds like you may have called the CLONE my number LINE......i would call my service carrier Cool

At least I did call the right #, this is on the FTC site...

The federal government does not maintain a national cell phone registry. Personal cell phone users have always been able to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry — the same Registry consumers use to register their land lines — either online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling toll-free 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number they wish to register. Registrations become effective within 31 days of signing up and are active for five years. There is no cut-off date or deadline for registrations.

When I got my new cell phone #, it apparently was a number that previously belonged to someone who was a pretty heavy gambler.

I got all kinds of calls from rough sounding men looking for "Brooks" who "owed them money" and they didn't believe that I had no clue who Brooks was or where he was.

Do you think they have a "Do Not Call Brooks" center where I could register?

This is kinda true and kinda false, the do not call list is real, and the # posted is valid, and if you call, the # will be blocked as long as the # you punch in is from the phone you are calling from, preferably your landline, the # telemarketers usually call at dinner or while you're having sex with midgets...I mean your wife.
The part that is BS is that no one is giving out cell #'s any time soon. Wink Does that make sense?
