In my opinion there is no one best guitarist...there's always one better, more better, best and more bestest. There are just too many damn great guitarists in this world. Each in their own way and specialty have something to offer to the rainbow of genious virtuosity.I wouldn't call B.B. King the best guitar player but he's a master at his specialty, the blues and an great inspiration to many blues and rock guitarists who came after. One of which is Gary Moore, again maybe not the greatest in any one field but has mastered many guitar styles from rock, jazz, blues and country, to traditional electric blues, to hard rock, heavy metal and more.Put these two together in a live gig, playing a blues classic called "The Thrill is Gone" written by Rick Darnell and Roy Hawkins in 1951 and popularized by B. B. King in 1970,and you've got a gem of a session. Cool http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lqAuuIDU2sw
After that's all said and done I have to say I have a soft spot for Hendrix considering that he virtually defined a before and after in the history of the electric guitar. As well as the fact he died way before he matured as a guitar player and no one really knows to what heights or in which directions he still could have taken this instrument. Many have tried to sound like, imitate, copy and be like Jimi.ButJimi was and always will be,(and there can and will be no other like him) the one and only "Jimi Hendrix".The only one who captures his spirit and imo followed in his footsteps was Stevie Ray Vaughn( who unfortunately also died before his time). He was for me one of the bestest guitarists ever.So here is a video made in my old home town,Toronto,at an old club I've had the pleasure of playing at,(with the Robbie Rox Band,a year before SRV played there, believe it or not) The El Mocambo.Stevie plays a Jimi Hendrix classic "Little Wing".This is a must see,Stevie Ray Vaughn live at his best.If you liked this tune check out the rest of his repertoire at the Elmo gig on YouTube. It was a great concert.Enjoy! Never mind that he eerily resembles Putin, Mark Knopfler is by far my favorite.

I’ve been listening to the links everyone has posted. Although I haven’t heard of a few of these guys, I’m enjoying them now.
