Larger Contest Entries

on Jun 21, 2006 @ 11:00 am, jmh132 wrote:  Contest entry images may now be much larger. Advantage members can upload images up to 1280x960 and as much as 512KB in filesize. Regular accounts can upload an image of up to 800x600 and less than 128KB in filesize. In addition, all entries must be at least 500x350 (pixels WxH) or they will not be accpeted.

The new large images will not be used until the launch of the revised/upgraded PSC. We would like to have a good crop of them to show off when that happens. This is a hint of many new things on the near horizon for PSC.

will be a 1280x960 pic shown in original format in this website template.. i think it will be too big, if you open the entry... but really good addition jmh!!!!
jmh132 jmh132 (Jun 21, 2006 @ 11:35 am)
kooi, you are correct that it will not fit. This template is going away, but it will be an alternate download "full version" link that opens a new window. The page layout will not matter.

Will I even be able to see it full size on my screen? I think it's kind of extreme... But I like the fact that we can now post a decent sized horizontal entry.
Michel Michel (Jun 21, 2006 @ 4:37 pm)
Dang! That means those small Getty source pics that I loved so much to use are now going to be useless because they won't fill in my whole entry.

i just submitted 2 large pics, is it too early ?
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 22, 2006 @ 10:17 am)
What i'm getting from this is "You can submit larger entries now, but they won't appear that size until the site is updated." Somebody please correct me if i'm wrong
ReinMan ReinMan (Jun 22, 2006 @ 10:30 am)
What is a "pixel"? Are they like elves or faeries? And why the hell would I want MORE of them? Do they suck blood like mosquitos? Geez, I'm getting a RASH here... WHY DO THEY ALWAYS GOTTA CHANGE THINGS AROUND HERE!?!?!?!?!!??! - have a nice day
Feral Hamster Feral Hamster (Jun 22, 2006 @ 1:15 pm)
will we still be able use our computer to make a photograph look like a different photograph?
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 22, 2006 @ 2:12 pm)
no, you can only use a photograph to make it look like another photograph as long as the photograph is similar to the photograph you make from the photograph, but you can't use the same photograph to make a photograph look like that photograph
digitalpharaoh digitalpharaoh (Jun 22, 2006 @ 5:51 pm)
In addition, photographs used must be photographs of something photographed and not photographs of photographical material photographed for photographical purposes by the photographer. Please refer to Subsection P: Article XVII:Paragraph 2:Line 8
Micose Micose (Jun 22, 2006 @ 8:41 pm)
im damn serious : pics are resized 450x500 , 40 k ! will they keep this shitty size during the contests ? PLZ ANSWER
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 22, 2006 @ 9:07 pm)
sorry Micose, it must be some weird glitch for you, no one else is having that problem... :(
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 22, 2006 @ 9:07 pm)
Maybe one of the mods is trying to sabotage you since you win a lot with your chops. ;)

Release the hounds JMH...let the countdown begin...for soon we shall be entering the PSC Twilite Zone.
Death of a Clown Death of a Clown (Jun 22, 2006 @ 9:27 pm)
Yeah, I'm having the same problem, Micose. My next entry looks pretty ugly the way the file got resized. Heh, its down under 19K now. It's a low contrast picture, so it really effects the look.
Death of a Clown Death of a Clown (Jun 22, 2006 @ 9:44 pm)
Imageshack to the rescue. Just put the high quality image in the author's comments.
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 23, 2006 @ 12:16 am)
that's really bizarre...what browser and operating system are you guys using?
Death of a Clown Death of a Clown (Jun 23, 2006 @ 2:30 am)
Windows IE... Firefox won't work with this site on this computer. JMH has to figure out a way to turn off the auto resize for images under 550X600.
bx3800 bx3800 (Jun 23, 2006 @ 4:12 am)
Wheres the link for the preview of the new site??, dammit I hat eyou ppl im already addicted imagine whats next??
jmh132 jmh132 (Jun 23, 2006 @ 9:34 am)
the "auto-resize" is a feature not a bug. It is not being done with html or the broswer either, so they both will look the same. If you do not want your images to be resized, make them 550 wide and less then 500 high.
Micose Micose (Jun 23, 2006 @ 11:01 am)
i dont understand JMH, the less than 500 high", so now all my pics are more little than the old size (600) pretty unfair no ?... im lost
Death of a Clown Death of a Clown (Jun 23, 2006 @ 12:05 pm)
Good to know. *goes to fix entry* Thanks.
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 23, 2006 @ 12:31 pm)
wait, so you guys were submitting your entries without resizing them, so the site automatically resizes them to a preset size?
Death of a Clown Death of a Clown (Jun 23, 2006 @ 12:50 pm)
I was resizing it under 550X600 like usual. You now have to resize it under 500 height if you don't want it to be autoresized on you.
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 23, 2006 @ 1:02 pm)
.....why?....I don't get what the point is...
Micose Micose (Jun 23, 2006 @ 1:40 pm)
yea... whats the point if u resize it yourself, what the difference, its always damn only 500 high, uknow wht i mean...so ?
mason4300 mason4300 (Jun 23, 2006 @ 1:43 pm)
if the limit is 550, why would it resize it if it fit the requirements?
digitalpharaoh digitalpharaoh (Jun 23, 2006 @ 2:03 pm)
OK...i had to resubmit an entry...I REDID it the correct size, but now the resolution is all screwed up...ARRRGH!
jmh132 jmh132 (Jun 23, 2006 @ 3:48 pm)
ideally, submit the image the same aspect ratio of 1280x960. So a minimum of 550x412. If it is bigger than 550(w) then divide the W by 1.333333333333 to get the optimal canvas height. It wont matter as soon as the new version of psc is up.
dbbowling dbbowling (Jun 23, 2006 @ 4:33 pm)
A PSC premiere launch party!!! WOW!! This should be fun. Splodge...order drinks for everyone. I can't wait to see the new models strut their stuff on the runway. Let the good times role :D

Micose Micose (Jun 23, 2006 @ 9:49 pm)
why this super feature is yet allowed for submitions and that's it, it just disappears and a a 40 kos pic appears in place...i tried all ways to repost them, all size, and it does a shit .

What's the story with the gifs? They don't appear to be showing. Should we be keeping them under 125Kb still?
Michel Michel (Jun 24, 2006 @ 12:15 pm)
couldbe5150's entry is 298,589 bites http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/101443/pull.html

bigbuck bigbuck (Jun 25, 2006 @ 3:43 am)
Well I've uploaded a gif today (500x375, 500kb) and cannot get it to display. Tried it quite a few times with different sizes....and still no joy.
jmh132 jmh132 (Jun 25, 2006 @ 12:05 pm)
I re-wrote the gif upload mechanism entirely a little bit ago. Have a go at it now. For those images that were broken, edit and upload again. If there are any more issues, use the contact form to report them. Enjoy.

Is it me, or do the pictures still come up at @ 4"x5" when you look at someones picture? I would think that larger resolution sizes would equate to larger pictures, I hope it's just a bug that has not been worked out yet, anyone???
billtvshow billtvshow (Jul 21, 2006 @ 10:54 am)
Hang tight, it is supposed to be part of the new version of the site. For now, I recommend linking to your full size chops in your author comments.
Death of a Clown Death of a Clown (Jul 22, 2006 @ 10:39 pm)
Any idea on the ETA for the new version, Bill?
