I know little about gifs, but you can reduce the number of colors to save file size.

AprilMayJuneShowers - what a lot of us who enter GIFFYs from time to time do is: put up a small version here, and (as Mr.Hamster said) keep the colour choice as low as possible for the "display" GIF. THEN, and here is the fun part, post a large version
