Hey, everyone, thanks for all your comments (and votes)! I used "layer mask" to etch out all the scales.That was the longest part. Then I just had no idea what to do it. Duplicating layers with different settings / layer effects wound up with this.

It needed something more... so I added the Chinese symbol for "love" (I hope!) to those scales... emboss, change layer order to put it "inside" the scales... that also took a while, but made for a more interesting chop, I think.

Anyway, I don't usually go on trying to explain what I've done, but a couple of you asked, so there you have it. Glad you seem to like it! :D Not to discourage anyone else from voting(!), but it has done better than I expected. THANK YOU!!
