"In an effort to help the residents of Pass Christian, MS in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, photojournalist Becky Sell and photo editor Dave Ellis have embarked on a mission to recover the photos and memories that would be lost to the storm."

They need your guys' help, this is a great effort and i figured where better to come to.
a site full of talented people who have what it takes to make a difference in these people's lives for generations to come.

check out the site http://www.operationphotorescue.com and here's the email if you decide to help. volunteer@operationphotorescue.com just go ahead and tell them you would like to help out, be sure and let them know what level of restoration skills you have.

Easy

Very little damage to any parts of the body. Most of the damage is located in backgrounds or areas of the picture that include very little detail. Estimate around 30 minutes to fix.

Medium

Some damage to parts of the body, but there’s enough information in other areas to draw from. Very little to none reconstruction of any body parts. More extensive damage to backgrounds and areas other than the main subject of the picture. Estimate 1 to 2 hours to reconstruct.

Hard:

Extensive damage the main subject and/or to a majority of the overall image. Faces and body elements would require major reconstruction. Most of the time the reconstructed photo will still show significant damage. Estimate 2 or more hours to complete.

please help.

-Nick

Wonderful cause! Even though I'm still an untalented hack I think I could fix photos like the top one.

I think I'll check it out.

Maybe the mods could merge the two threads?

I've been practicing in case they contact me. As I worked on these I couldn't help but think that these are not only memories for some parent but actual kids whose lives may have been severely disrupted by that storm and the resulting chaos.

I'm not happy (or even done) with the "moderate" one but it's getting there. Areas that I know need improvement are the chin, the background, the right leg and left hand. But it's getting there I think.

The work got me to thinking. What if there was an "assembly line" approach? Have people like me remove the creases/wrinkles/spots and then the talented artists rebuild the fine features? Might speed up the process?

Just an idea but if some one asks, da boss we could maybe post one image a day in a selected forume thread and let us all have a go at a repair, some of us want to help but are unsure if our skills are good enought. This way every one can do a little and if you want you can sign up for some more work, Just an idea. Make it a PSC connecton.
Anyhoo just thinkin out loud...nothing to see here move along....

that's a great idea, psc could like sponsor the site or be affiliated with the project. it's a great way to really help out, especially for those of us who thought there was nothing we could do, here's a chance to put YOUR skills to work for a good cause. Smile
