Thanks Tofu... you clarified it well.
If you were someone that was on this site as a regular (posting images or not), most likely you'd have no problem finding someone to do it for you. For example, if someone like chicken, or blue, came asking me to help with this same project, I'd have no problem doing it for nothing and wouldn't flinch.

But as tofu said, we get people randomly coming on asking for things without any advance.

There may be some people here that would do it for you, but most will just pass you off as another "gimmie gimmie" post.

I don't take my car in looking for free body work...

You know... if you would have titled this topic photo restoration contest, you would have had 15 different versions of it by now. You got to be sneaky people.

I think I'm going to go to the beauty salon today and tell them I want a free haircut, so I'll look nice for Mother's Day. It'll be a fun challenge for the hairdressers! I'll bet they'd do it if I said HELP really loudly. |

Holy crud. Just for kicks I downloaded the pic. I've got a pretty good broadband connection speed here at work (576.8 kbps) and the thing still took AN HOUR to download.
Either that file sharing site is for crap or the file itself got PSC'd? I'm scared to open the file now.

Cynn, we´re talking about free work here, not IMPOSSIBLE work... geez... ask to a hairdresser to fix your hair is like asking someone to dry the ocean... pffft

I had that happen once..turned out there's a setting somewhere that limits how much bandwith you may have allocated to downloading...

I forget where the setting is exactly, but anyway--I do remember using "FRESHUI" to fix it--freshui is free,

and is fun to play with anyway.

Yeah, splodge did tons of work for me and wouldn't take a dime. I tried to pay it forward by writing a big essay to Michel about copyright law, until I realized that he had also spent time helping me with free advice for my web site. So there's a lot of hands washing other hands around here...but strangers' hands? Gross!

Just for grins I played with the pic. That HUGE size sure makes cloning easier.
Anyway, background and stain issues aside, I got the mustache and goatee removed (easy part). I also repaired the torn parts, rebuilt the older girl's hair, and fixed a few creases:

Venom, what you should do is offer $ for the service. PMs or email can be used to negotiate the price and terms. I'd say pony up a good-faith deposit then the person fixing your photo would work on it and supply you with a small version (a la above) to for approval of the work. Upon approval you pay up the rest of the dough and get the fixed picture in the original file size for printing whatever size your mom desires.

The big problem you have is the rush job nature of the beast. Fixing all those stain spots isn't that tough but it is going to be very time consuming.

If ya havent given up yet there.
You could contact through PM the person 'jmh132'.
get him to allow you to purchase a year of "advantage" at this site for around $30,
and offer that as a prize to the person who does the best restoration for you--it can be a prize, in a little contest.
 I'll play.
