todays winner is one of the best examples of metal work i've seen and stuff like that just makes me go wow. metal comes up quite a lot in the stuff i do but i have to always avoid it because i have no idea how to make it.

can someone from here write a tutorial on how to make metal from scratch? (just by using reflections and shadows etc.). it's one of those things i've tried to do on my own but couldn't, tried to find a good tutorial for it but couldn't and now i'm kind of stuck for ideas.

yeah ive read a few tutorials on making metal text, but just not metal surfaces. and not using layer blending modes using images to make the reflections to imply metal. like stevester did in his entry

It wasn't metal really--it's the mirror...no special tricks.
An absoluteley beautiful chop and cheers to Stev.
Open up the original source and study it against that chop.

Scion is right about my chop. I just used the actual source image as the shoulder and then cut out segments of the mirror and placed them on the knight's helment/sword. I used the "overlay" option on the blending menu when applying the reflections to the armor. You may have to adjust the opacity levels when trying this. Hope this helped!
