NOOOOOO!
the magic wand tool is fantastic for designs where you need some random shapes with hard edges.
used it to make the background for www.myspace.com/onsiteexplosion
edit* arg... i edited my profile a tad and now the background doesn't match the text

I agree. The magic wand can be quite useful. You definately can't use it for every project, but if you play with the tolerance level, you can get a clean cut a lot of the time.
*edit: okay, at least some of the time.

Very complicated image, big lightnes differences and Treshold has helped me a couple of times.
Usually I use quick mask and marquee tool.
Yes, 99% of the cuts with clean-ups are marquee and transform selection

pen tool or selection tools are for idiots you should be using a brush in mask mode... applaudes people who mention mask mode.. and slaps selection tool jockeys...
buy a pen tablet and make sure its pressure sensative.. it shaves better than a mach 4 with a bounus multiplier on closeness of shave.
you will be able to edit the masks so finely and flexably you will be laughing as you can draw even the whispyest bits of hair and keep em in. even single strands...
yeah the brush tool is by far the best cropping tool when combined with pen tab accuracy...
did i mention slaps selection tool jockeys.
and cut off hair are you nuts... your suppose to up the contrast on a copyied mask layer to get its definition up and paste it in or more hardcore draw it in via mask over mask free handing.

the only thing that is pressure sensitive is yer, like the brits use to say, arse-hole...
shut up marx!! not everyone has a tablet... and fot those who doesn't, pen is still the best tool for a clean cut... even for those whose does have a table... now, just because ya can't use the pen, don't come with all this bullshit to confuse newbies... let the experts help them out and go back to yer arse-hole stretching training...

Yeah! I knew PS was a tremendous software. When they conceived that software, they figured absolutely everything. They probably thought: "Hey! There will be thousands & thousands idiots using that software... why not creating some stupid tools just for them!" I think you really know everything about PS. WOW!!
