Thanks Jim to PM me!
I thought to include this here, maybe somebody else want to know...
Your question:
I asked on question on your thread, if you self taught yourself your skills, or if you had some schooling.
I have always wanted to find a profession in digital imaging, but wnated to know if a college background was required or just a kick ass portfolio.
My answer:
Sorry... because of my bad English, I didn't understand your question... I thought it was just an observation.
I never went to school or study anything after my college degree in graphic design in 1980.
First as a graphic designer, I started to try some airbrush illustrations. You know the kind of exercice like doing a white cloud on a blue sky. I had time to time contracts with illustration needs & I risked myself... sometimes the result was so bad. After 5 years, I just took a break for 1 year and thought about what can be next. I was attracted to illustration but I thought I wasn't enough good to make a career.
I decided to built a portfolio and to see what I'm able to do. Since then, work never stop. Without experience sometimes it was hard, but that's the way to learn.
In 2000, I bought my first computer. I instantly liked photo manipulation. I never read the PS books, never read a tutorial, never went to school to learn. I'm not enough patient for those things, maybe I was supposed to learn faster but anyway... I just spent a lot of time on PS, and found my own way to work on it. My illustration experience brought me a lot & helped me a lot to understand how to play with images & colors.
To answer your question, a kick ass portfolio & nice website is enough and really what you need.
The only way to increase skills is to spend a lot of time, beeing observative & to like it.
