I like the blurred reflections - are they Illustrator or Photoshop?

I'm starting illustrator too! I've just started a digital image class, and the class is beginning with illustrator. We've gotten CS2 for our home computers, and I'll be both learning illustrator and updating my knowledge from 5.5 to CS2 for photoshop.

Illustrator's different enough from photoshop to be difficult for me to just jump into. I'm glad to be introduced to it through the class. I pity the couple of people in the class that have never done EITHER photoshop or illustrator before.

I've looked through this thread a bit, and appreciate the advice you've given FF.
Do you all have any suggestions for good illustrator book? or online tutorial?
the class syllabus recommended "visual quick start guide" for illustrator.

thanks,
Evelyn

thanks Splodge Smile - never have bought anything thru ebay though.
My favorite Photoshop book is Katrin Eismann's Masking and Compositing book. I'm looking for something clear and complete and with thorough background like that for illustrator

Some Illustrator basics" ~
Pen tool (P) ~ pencil tool (N) ~ convert anchor point Shft (C) ~ eyedropper (I) ~
direct path tool (A) ~ direct selection tool (V) ~ jog betwwen colors (X) ~ change color (/) ~ hide artboard" that black square in the middle, go View; hide artboard ~ crop image; deactivate both colors, then go Object; crop area, (make) ~ for gradient" clk on gradient at bottom of tool box, then clk inside gradient color rectangle and you can adjust sliders like in photoshop" then open swatches; Window, swatches ~ drag the gradient box into the swatches then clk arrow, save swatches" ~ for opacity change; go Window, transparency" here's a tip; after you bring the image into Illustrator, first thing to do is make a copy by dragging to bottom" like photoshop, then lock the first layer, turn the eye off and go to the second layer and clk the arrow so it's pointing down" now you can start adding new paths, or layers" ~ you have to name all your layers to keep them in order! or you can get lost" also to prevent other layer from getting in the way when you select a section, lock all other layers to stop that from happening.gradient mesh tool (U),Make clipping mask (Ctrl 7) ~ use some of these basics and you will save yourself some serious frustration!
this is a few tips for now, Cool

Thanks FF, Supakoma, Mikey.

Supakoma - I tried "control Y "- thanks for the tip. I can see how this would be really useful.

Mikey - thanks for ALL the advice- I just printed out your post. I'm sure I'll be referring to your comments a lot in the coming few weeks! Smile

I use Illustrator more than I use photoshop.. unfortunate part of my job....

CONTROL U or apple U
