I know, an oooooold topic, but what I saw today, is simply too much! I wish a solution, to keep such activity away from our forum. Who else?

I used to mod on another forum, and potential spammers had their posts audited before they were submitted. It was a real pain in the rear, but we managed to keep the worst off. You will always get the smart alec who re-registers under a different name though , which makes life really fun for the mods!

SPAM

there was a suggestion a few threads ago about spammers which thought was pretty good, why arent forms locked until you have posted a cpl of images.

this could be monitered by the mods and when someone has posted the required amount of images (say 3) then they can unlock the forums

you could also say if advantage member automatically unlocked as no spammer is gonna pay the money to spam and if they do they lose their account

this is the best idea that's been going around lately but I don't know why it hasn't been done yet..

At least one posted entry before being enabled to post in the forum would be fine!

problem is they will post porn in the contests, to get the required #of posts, 3 contests open 2 posts per contest, newbies would have to post 7 pix before they could use the forums, also the same guy has hit us 5 times now, using i diferent account and IP each time, even though his old accounts have not been closed yet.

any more ideas? Very Happy

i would stick with the one above for these reasons.

1. the contests are set to open when the most mods are around to pick up and delete the pics that are porn.

2. the forum would have to be unlocked MANUALLY not automatically that way even if they did get in the set amount of images (still sticking with 3 genuine entries) then they wouldn't get the access to the forum.

3. why hasnt this one guy had his old accounts closed yet???? if we know its the same guy then surely they should of been closed after one such spam attack

i agree, one post before you can enter the forum would stop most casual spamers, but what would the popup say:

Sorry, you have to post in
atleast one contest before
you can post in the forum.
If you are a porn spammer
please dont post porn in
the contests Laughing

i think that would just move the problem from the forum to the contest page,

Now gather around while i tell you how to fix this problem, remember you saw it here first, there is a forum out there on the net, i think it's weeble_stuff.com, once you have registered, with a genuine email address you can go straight into the forum (great for the newbie) But you must post 10 text posts before you can post an external link, 10 more posts before you can post images,

can we have a vote on this? can anyone code this Shocked i know the guys at weeble, doncaster lads, i might be able to get the code from them

It could pop up and say:

Spam Monkey sez:
"You are not yet eligible to post in the forum. You must post at least 3 chops before you will be considered for inclusion in the club. Now bugger off, you rat-bastard spammer."

In all seriousness, Splodge has a great idea... I think that would work.
