ReinMan wrote: And any of you American Folks got any travel tips for a Canuck travelling through the Purple Zone, let me know. Like, which line of motels DOESN"T have critters in their beds and which ones are a rip off and which are not. Plus, and Wonderful Places to See along the way (like Glenn Hanna's PEPSI factory in Bart Simpson's home town ).
I don't know about the Purple Zone, but more in the south there's amazing great nature. I don't know if I missed something, but I think the Californian side (Sierra Nevada & Death Valley) is more interesting than Nevada, between Lake Tahoe & Las Vegas.
I took the 395 & 190 routes for a snowboarding trip at Lake Tahoe few years ago...
Some pictures from Sierra Nevada & Death Valley...
This guy is the one who showed me how to make Dath Vader with crackers...
I hope it can be helpful...

Thanks Claf - great pics and great tips!
Yup - next time Glen!
Well... I got as far as California!
I just got to Mt.Shasta, and I'm taking a coconut pie n' coffee break before cutting into the desert for the next 3 hour leg of my journey.
Gotta admit, mid-Oregon along the I-5 was pretty boring. Fast but flat. But southern Oregon & the little bit of Northern California I've seen is AMAZING. (mostly because I can wear a t-shirt and shorts!
Okay - pie's done - road's a-waitin'!

Hi, ReinTraveler - I'm enjoying the saga of your journey and the great photos you've been so gracious to share with us. Glad you're able to enjoy the shorts 'n t-shirt weather, too!
I'm getting quite a nice photo collection, thankyouverymuch......
Drive safely, Road Warrior.

Howdy from SUSANVILLE, California.
I was supposed to be in RENO by now, but I got lost in the mountains today and had to take a 50 mile (about 70km) backtrack. (see MOVIE HERE! - well, soon come... my motel's wiFi is SuperCrappy )
Here are some snaps from along the way:
Mount Shasta (it is a BIG mutha! ) and a barn... I know the barn almost looks as big as the mountain, but that is because the air is so thin up here!
This was just before I got to Shasta - southern Oregon somewhere. I wasn't expecting any mesas in this area yet!
Same area as above... when the sun finally came out everything down here was so GREEN!!!!!!!!!

I don't MIND horses! But I'll keep to my Civic for now!
Man I think I'm in love with Mount Shasta!
When I was a kid I had a favorite soda pop called RedPop, and it was made by Shasta company. Ah.... childhood....
So, due to the Less Than Stellar WiFi here at my hotel I can't upload today's ReinMovie. Too bad. It explains about my getting lost in the snowy outback of Northern California. Hopefully tomorrow I can upload it from a Starbucks or something.
GOOD NIGHT ALL!!!!!!!

Reinier, I was thinking about the difficulties you had getting into the fair U. S. of A. and have a solution for your next trip. Since you are musically talented, just learn this song and sing it repeatedly as you come through customs.
I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy
A Yankee Doodle, do or die
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam
Born on the Fourth of July
I've got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart
She's my Yankee Doodle joy
Yankee Doodle came to London
Just to ride the ponies
I am the Yankee Doodle Boy
They'll either admit you or give you a free vacation in Cuba.

@ Yankee Doodle Dandy
I told Mr. Caf about YerPalAl's border-crossing "solution" and he said you'd probably get that free vacation in Cuba. hehe
Then our conversation went like thus:
Mr. Caf: It's pretty standard to get searched coming back into this country.
Me: (*and how does he know that, I wonder*)
Mr. Caf: Is [ReinMan] a freaky looking guy?
Me: No. But he travels with an accordion in the trunk.
Mr. Caf: Well, that's probably good for mandatory prison time.

Simply owning an accordian should be good for mandatory prison time.
