The anniversary of the first landing on the moon reminded me...As a boy I sat in awe in front of the TV watching a man set foot on the moon. At that time, it seemed the future held such wonders. For instance, we KNEW that by the year 2000 we would all have our own flying car. And we KNEW that there would be bases on the moon and space stations that we would go to, maybe for vacations.
Somehow along the way our future got hijacked. But dammit...

Why don't you just chop yourself flying in a car.

If I understand correctly there is a team of geniuses somewhere in earth thinking on how to make a affordable, clean and safe flying car among other cool stuff. Then again, if they are the same people from back in the day they must be pretty old by now and out of ideas... what we need is new fresh minds.

Affordable, clean... ok it sounds good.
But just by looking at people driving so badly their "so easy to drive" cars on "so easy" streets & roads,
it surely can't be safe.
Flying cars can be a very efficient way to resolve the upcoming overpopulation problem.

unfortunately the only and one main reason why we do not have flying cars is safety. Say that you buy a new car and everything is nice, once in a while it breaks while on the freeway or on the streets, now just imagine that with a flying car. It needs to be 100% safe and free of defects or at lease pretty damn close, we don't want cars dropping in our houses because they ran out of gas or blew the head gasket.

video of the autogiro that flew in april 2009 in the Netherlands, precurcer to the flying car, which prototype will be available in 18 months.
You need a small aeroplane licence to use it and the first series will cost as much as Porche, eventually it will cost you as much as a state of the art Ford Mondeo.
In the video you see two small vehicles driving and an autogiro flying, those two will eventually be put together and turned into the prototype of the Pal V.
Usefullness: emergency services on busy highways.
