Thanks to all for the positive and kind comments on the smudge paintings. Just a "mouse" and tons of hours learning and managing the process.
Your comments are so warm and inspiring and very much appreciated..

I hope you don't mind....

You are very close on the technique, really. I think hair and skin are major problems for most people, and you have them down nicely.

I did a bit of dodging on the eyes, to bring out the whites, to give depth to the irises. Then I added a sunburst style light beam brush (ss-lightbeams it is called) in a couple shades of blue to the eye on another layer. Erased off the pupil, and set the layer at hard light. Then used the hue/sat slider to make it a shade I thought was believable. Last, just tweaked your background a little by cloning. Re smudged, then used the blur tool a little to set it back from the person.

I think if you pressed just a little further forward, you'd get a result you were pleased with. Very Happy

Some great work here, I have been smudge painting for ages. I like to sketch a basic outline, throw colour onto the screen and then add the correct details as I go. I used to do a lot of oil work an I used to use different items to paint with (like Bob Ross) ie blades etc so when I first got into PS I noticed the smudge tool and I was away... I have added my Indiana Jones samples for you to see... Hope you like!

Nice work Dan Shocked

I know these are kinda large, but they're 3 times bigger than this when I work on them, and detail is lost when you compress them down into small pics.
This was one of a series of Orchids I did last year, keep in mind that if you decide to do one of these, start with a high res. picture, otherwise it will turn to shit when you print it large,
Photoshop is a great program to use with large format printing, it saved me $2K on RIP software needed for printing large

Thanks, all those are done from blank canvass and usually takes about a week to do one. I do have some screencaps somewhere of the work that goes into it...I might make one of those speed-Painting vids like you see on YouTube lol. Can you speed up 7 days into a few minutes? I dunno... hee hee! Laughing

Those are great Patre. I started playing around after being inspired by Delia's work. I did on of Walter Payton. I love the Reggie Bush one, awesome!
