Hi,

I have a problem with Rectangular Marquee tool. I'm working with CS4 but I've seen this also in previous versions.
When selecting parts of an image (website design) and copy/paste that part in a new image to slice up the design, there is a small 1px border (semi transparant) around the image, so part of the selection is missing.
I've checked feather etc. Strange thing is that I've had this problem working with previous versions and it always starts after working with the software for more than a year or so.

As a workaround I make a selection an then crop the entire image and Safe for web then undo to continue.

Anybody any suggestions on what can be causing this behaviour ?

First I did a reset of my preferences file, problem still there.
I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling PS. Problem gone.

Case closed (for now...)

Wow - I was just gonna get a BIG HEADACHE trying to understand what was going wrong - but it sounds like you've sorted it out. Very Strange

Some PRO folks say re-installing your PS every year (or more often) is not a bad idea. For me, just trashing the preference file and reloading my "fresh backup" preference file back in does the trick for any WEIRD PhotoShop Behavior.

Next time I'm having a similar problem I'm not even going to try to look for solution -> uninstall and reinstall while taking a coffee-break , saves a big headache

Well, you MIGHT want to spend 2 or 3 minutes seeing if you have the computer plugged in FIRST - but yes, it is good to do that reinstall now and again!

the selection you make can be having feathered borders or other type of aditional stuff. When you click on the square selection, look at the top of the window and see which additional aplications are at work, maybe you can change something there
