Oops, didn't mean to spoil any of the plot of the movie...

I thought the CG looked pretty lame in the previews too, but was very impressed with the actual outcome. I didn't even plan on seeing it but just ended up doing it on a whim.

Ok, crappy... the main actor tries to hide an Australian accent in the beginning but slowly gives up on that and by the end of the movie doesn't hardly sound American at all.

Depending on the review you read, the movie is just an attempt to preach right wing sentiments.

Ummm... the female counterpart cries a lot? Is that crappy?

Yep, that's all I got. Trust me when I say that is pretty amazing that that is all I can say in the negative about a movie. The plot may have been done, but it was done well in this movie. The previews do it no justice.

Saw the film today and it IS stellar. Not a new story, but then what is, but absolutely phenomenal. Well paced, beautiful, only a few small issues, the time frame was too short for his integration and learning, and . . . UNOBTANIUM?!?!?!
We used to fight table-top miniature colonial wargames over that element!
But for God's sake, go see it.

I watched Avatar on Saturday. I probably should have gone to the 3D version, but it was early in the day and the 2D version was less than $6.00. Plus I'd have to wait about 3 hours before the next 3D showing.

I've seen better animation in Antz the movie. Rocks, mountains, and trees looked great, but anything with eyeballs that weren't humans, looked like a cartoon. Maybe people were impressed with the avatars because they were practically naked. It's hard to get into a movie with a bunch of Jar Jar Bink looking characters interacting with real objects.

I will admit that the movie just gets better and better as it goes as far as the story. I usually get bored with action sequences, but the action sequences in this movie reminded me of Return of the Jedi, one of the few movies where it's actually fun to watch the action unfold. All you could think about was killing Scar Head.

The beginning of the movie reminded me of Jurassic Park the first time I saw it... although Jurassic Park had me more memorized when I saw the dinosaurs for the first time. But you get that whole feeling of traveling with scientists to a place full of creatures you've never seen before.

This movie is a cartoon in the most part. If you are into cartoons, you'll love it. If you're not, eventually you get into the story the 2nd half of the movie when the story gets momentum.

Damn GLENman - the 3D is probably one of the KEY elements in the presentation of this movie. You may have saved 6 or 7 bucks, but you lost a LOT of what gives this movie its feel.
And agree with Alan on the "unobtanium" issue. When the Nasty Corporate Dude held up that chunk and called it that near the start of the film I almost walked. I thought "there is NO WAY this can be good if the writers are gonna be this dorky!". But I was surprised, in retrospect, how within a few more minutes I didn't care and I sunk into the film itself.

Hey, I was by myself. I'll watch it again in 3D when the theater is a little less crowded, and hopefully take somebody with me.

And I'll give the writers a sop in that that mineral probably had a REAL name and "Unobtanium" was probably a slang term, like "dinosaur wine"for petroleum, but still . . .
