Photoshop Contest Forum Index - General Discussion - Domain Names? - Reply to topic

So I'm looking to make a website. In fact, I have it partially designed and coded.

The website is mostly an experiment in web design for me. Besides making a couple of myspace layouts *laughs at self* I've never done anything like this. Its all about learning and pushing myself. My goal is for it to be part blog, part portfolio, and eventual launching point for my student government election campaign (for el presidente of Rutgers).

QUESTION(s)
I'm extremely unsure of a domain name. Help?! I'll probably pester my friends about this too, but I'm looking for some feedback.

Whats your opinion on ".me" or other non ".com" extensions? Are they memorable enough?

My ideas (excluding extensions):
    mynameisryan
    iamryan
    thatryankid
    ryanharrington
    rharrington

^^Opinions?^^

Thanks in advance for the help! Very Happy

dot me is useless.
Personal sites..your first and last name together will likely be open to own and will be relevant forever.
ryanharrington
and everyone that knows you will never forget it..where as any other name they will
if not available in dot com, then national suffix is good.

"ryanharrington.com" is my first choice and sadly unavailable. Unfortunately I have a pretty common first and last name. More unfortunately, whoever owns it isn't using it.

The same goes for "rharrington.com", but at least thats being used.

Why not go with .com? My registrar actually charges twice as much for .ca than they do for .com

My advice to you is stick with .com if you want it to be more successful.. here are a few domains i found that are available.

harrington31.com is available
rharringtonlive.com is available
MrHarrington.com is available
harringtonfiles.com is avail
imrharrington.com (I'm R Harrington)

2 humorous ones
willtherealrharringtonpleasestandup.com is available

rharringtonaintnofooldamnit.com is available Laughing

rharringtonaintnofooldammit.com sounds like the winner Laughing

I'm a fan of mrharrington.com. I can't wait to see what my dad thinks of that one hahah.

I'd probably go with harrington31.com but I hate when there are numbers in domain names (in most cases)

There's nothing wrong with .net imho.
ryanharrington.net is available.

ryan-harrington.com is available if you are set on .com
you would need to say "ryan dash harrington" of course ,which is not so easy to remember the dash.

hmmmm....harring2k?

I agree. .net domains are becoming more common. It's all in how much you advertise your domain that counts.

mrharrington.com

sounds ridiculous... go with name and last name
or last name and name.
