Hey guys, I'm after a book or two to help me win my first comp here sometime this year, Laughing , any that you use that you recommend?

I use CS4, I'm after something that really goes through techniques using the Pen tool and also something about Colour Theory & all that jazz.

Like everyone else I've seen thousands of tutorials on the web but I'm after something I can sit & study on the train and when the boss ain't looking.

Thanks in advance, you guys always come through!

Get a Burt Monroy book. His pictures are boring but his techniques are great and very useful for realism. The best way is don't get all caught up in tricks and filters and techniques. Make believe you are using paints and canvas and start from there. Make masks with the pen tool. Masks for everything. Use them when you airbrush to control where the paint goes.

Nah, I've seen his work.
It's bad, I think he uses MS Paint for most of his stuff...

I just use tutes and then modify them or change them or join them together to get the effect I want...I found I learnt more buy doing that and then letting people here comment or ask there opinion and then listening to them improved my skills 10 fold, but you have to listen and not get all shitty when people comment. Its the best way to learn here.
