I was given the graphic files for some vinyl banner signs we're having printed. The original file template was RGB but the printer's spec says to submit only as CMYK TIF files. I thought "no problem simply change the image mode to CMYK and save as a TIF".

But when I did that and then previewed the TIF in Irfanview it looks like a color negative. However it looks fine in PS.

So my question must be is this just a problem/quirk of viewing a CMYK image in Irfanview? Since the TIF file looks fine in PS do I trust it and submit the graphic? Any CMYK printer-knowledgeable types wanna help a schmuck learn sumfin? Confused

Partial grab of what it looks like in Irfanview:

The images you see negative are cmyk 16 bit.
change it to 8 bit and will see it as in Photoshop

Also dont trust Irfranview, it is good for a free viewer but don't always show the true colours of an image Smile

But will that screw up the printing process?

No. You'll be fine. 16-bit CMYK for a banner is an overkill
