Swansea crowd pay tribute to Gary Speed today. The stupid stadium announcer said "a minutes silence". Stupid dick confused people. We give a minutes applause and sing the name of footballers to show respect.

Newcastle play at home next week. I'll post what a minutes applause and how the singing of "There's only one Gary Speed" is done when it's done properly.

Not surprising Anfa, since there does not seem to be any reason for his death.

It is always difficult to accept the death of someone in sports that we give hero status too. Athletes seem to have a invincibility about them due to their physical prowess, yet they are all too human and no different than us. They all have presuure to win, little privacy (especially in Britain where the inhuman press prevail) and their lives are open to scrutiny far beyond normal. Here in Canada this summer we lost three hockey players who all took their own lives. This shocked most Canadians and some retired players started to open up about having bouts of depression, anxiety and thoughts of suicide because of the pressure to win. We thought these guys were on top of the world, 6 and 7 figure salarys, nice families, fame, adulation, all handsome men but carrying a huge burden that they seem unable to share. The I'm a man code where emotion is seen as a sign of weakness. Suicide of young men here in North America is the third leading cause of men from 15 to 25.

These teams use up and then dispose these athletes with no safety net on how to move onto the rest of their lives. Most of these guys have since they were extremely young received special status as we worship athletes and then it comes to an end and they are no longer special. Too bad sorry that you lost your hero.
