Ah yes I have seen these before -> http://www.squidoo.com/3d-animated-gif
I guess there is some kind of sofftware for this, otherwise it can be done if you have like 3 different photos from 3 different angles (I think) Shocked

The animation that you posted looks (to me) like it is a three frame animation of a still image that was manipulated with the warp tool. You can create this by using the warp tool to "pull" one side of an object closer while "pushing" the other side away, creating the effect that the image is rotating. To prevent an obvious loop point, you can sequence the those layers to play as 1-2-3-2-1 and set the animation to continuously loop.

Here's an example of one that I made (except it completely rotates). If I moved the background layer left and right slightly and then selected any three frames of this animation, I could loop them to get the same effect as the animation you posted: http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/176619/seal-swirl-gif.html

This is how the warp tool was used:

This might not be the way that yours was made but it would work if you wanted to duplicate that effect thumleft

To me it looks like its been made by making a depth map in photoshop and wrapping the image around it using the 3D settings.

I made this from a single image in the same way.

I'll try and explain how it works.
A depth map is made of light and dark areas, light areas are considered to be in front and dark areas towards the back.

This is a depth map i just found on the net.

If you turn this into a 3D plane in Photoshop you get this.

Next i found a face that sort of fitted the face.

Place this over the 3D layer and you get this.

With the fruit i had to make my own depth map, which was a bit of a trial and error to make but came out ok in the end. Smile

Think i made the final animation too big to display on here, so here's a smaller one.

Damn! I need a new Mac. I'm working on a 2.5 dual PowerPC........ No intel, so CS3 sometimes has its moments. In fact I went back to CS2 because it runs so much better.

Bunch of money that I don't have though. Confused

Maybe sometime next year.
