My friend and I have been creating a board game in our spare time and I need some help with some techniques for the main image on the actual board. The game has a lot to do with ships/naval jazz and the board will be one giant overhead view of an ocean. Just water. Whats the best technique or combination of techniques to give a really cool overhead view of the ocean? Almost as if you were in a plane 10s of 1000s of feet in the air. Much thanks for any help received!

edit: image would be 18.5" by 18.5" finished

You should probably at least upload a concept sketch if you want anybody to take you seriously.

Good point, thank you. However, I can't yet post urls or images. I don't have enough "legitimate posts". Sad

Upload an Avatar first of all to show that you have interest in the site. Then respond and you will be that much closer.

Seriously, you can find dozens of Lansat satellite images of the ocean that I am sure you will find useful. For example, here is this one from wikimedia.org that is very high resolution. 5388 × 2778

Incidentally, the image that @luis posted is what I'm after. I've been messing with displacement maps but can't quite get it right.

I made this one by superimposing a couple of images I found in google.I made a copy of this new image, flipped the image vertically and blended it with the original to compensate for perspective issues. This made it appear as if you were looking straight down at the water instead of at an angle
