The term "chop" or "chopping" comes from the ancient times when man used printed magazines and photos to create their artwork pieces. These early primates would chop up magazines to create their montage or collage. They would use actual paste as well. This term was carried over into the modern digital age and is now used in reference to editing images in photoshop.
