There is so much hidden power in the blending modes of PS (Multiply, screen, overly, vivid light, etc) but it's a pain in the arse to go through them and try them out for a given layer.

So try this shortcut:
click on the layer whose blending mode you want to change to make it current.

then press SHIFT ALT and the PLUS or MINUS sign to quickly cycle through all of the blending modes.
It's wonderful!

you can also select that feild and roll the mouse wheel to do it even quicker Smile

oh yeah you can also press the numbers 1-0 to change the opacity value quickly

also i found it really useful when im trying to blend two layers- make the layer into a selection, then select inverse. then feather it and pressing delete a few times, it deletes the edge nicely. you can also go to layer matting and do defiringe but that wont give you a gradient like edge it will just kind of crop it

Best tip I can give is a very simple one

RIGHT CLICK>Save as>image1

Just wish I would remember this one cause so many times I start an idea and get all carried away and run out of stepbacks....

When using the lasso tool, I hold down the option key and click around the object I want to select. I find this way easier to control the lasso, as opposed to clicking and dragging the mouse. It's also mucho mas funner!

When using that All Powerful UNsharp Mast filter (when you don't have time for Doodlers SUPER SHARPEN technique Smile ) USE THAT THRESHOLD SETTING!

With the threshold set at "0" it shorpens EVERYTHING - including Jpeg artifacts and noise and grain and other non-disirables.

Best way to learn this adjustment is to grab a picture and put the RADIUS at about "2" and the AMOUNT at "200%" or so. The move the THRESHOLD from "0" on up in steps... you'll soon see whats going on.

(Normal starting point for smaller sized images like we use here at PSC is around 75% AMOUNT, RADIUS .7 pix, and THRESHOLD at around 2~5. But it is like spice: your choice and if you overdo it you'll wreck the flavor of the meal!)

probably goes under the "everyone already knows that" folder, but holding space bar and grabbing an image saves a lot of grey hairs when you're zoomed in %900 trying to lasso an image that expands your current window.

(least i tried Razz)
