I just find it disturbing that so many low quality posts get high votes, not pointing any fingers but this just didn't happen when I was here last time. I see the same people voting for eachother in every competition, and i know there is no way to stop 'friend voting' but it just seems unfair to those of us who are new and can't seem to make friends because not too many people pay attention to us.

P.S. Please don't flame me for this, if you don't agree say so, but don't tell me "you can leave if you don't like it" or something like that. Lets try to be mature about this.

*sigh*

this is a topic that has been rehashed over and over again on the forums.....you'd have to look back but there's plenty of discussion already on this.

i must agree with what you say that there is not much attention paid to newbies.

if i look for example at post http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/73920/display.html from galvatronix then i see that there were only 62 views.
if you compare that with the current first (well deserved) place of desh with 553 views then i find that a very big difference.
actually a pity because galvatronix posted imho a great pic that deserves more votes.

ofcourse the first poster has the most views, but if that should be that much more???
also if i look at the past contest i must conclude the same.

maybe it will change now a bit? Smile

and about friend voting... dont waste time on that. really has no use.
just keep chopping, posting and you will get the votes you deserve

It is a pleasure for me to give votes to newbies and underdogs when there is something I like in their post or when I see that they put out a lot of effort. I am trying to do my part in changing the polarized voting (did that make sense?), that change would benifit me anyways, because I don't think I am considered the least bit an oldie here.

I think people have great ideas to change it but it doesn't seem like others really want to, the biggest problem seems to be SNOWBALL VOTING. Once someone starts to get votes, do others feel the need to follow and throw them one? Bah, oh well. Maybe there are alot of things that can help, but maybe its fine the way it is. And maybe I'm over reacting and my stuff sucks (I just have too high self esteem to believe that Wink ) Oh well.

EDIT: Another problem is how many dang votes there are to be had, this just bolsters the winner's votes by the effect of snowball voting. Maybe there should be less votes to give out so people would find them to be more precious and less of a throw away thing when they vote for something absurd.

It is the way it is : imperfect. Sometimes I struggle when I don't get any votes on something that I think deserves a lot. It is easily said, but the best way is to do it for your own pleasure of Photoshoping.

Yes Michel you're completely right, but it does get frustrating when undeserving people get 10-20 votes because they have friends, that they swap votes with.

If you vote for me, I'll vote for you! Sad

Tape, was that a quote or an invitation?

Heh, it was a joke, especially because I can't vote yet! But no really it was a joke, I only care about skill and creativity. Not swapping with friends.

I agree with you tape. Although the point of the site is just to have fun with photoshop, it still can be rather discouraging towards how you feel about your creation if it doesn't get a lot of votes like you expect it to. I know I don't do the best of work because I'm still really new to all the photoshop tools and how to use them, but on some of the images, I think they deserve more than they get, and some less than they get. I recently signed up for the advantage so my pictures usually get put up on the first viewed page so everyone sees it if they vote on the contest, yet they still don't get as many as I think they would sometimes. I have seen an increase in my vpp because of it, but with me being new I feel the same as you do; like it's kind of set up in favor of certain members -- DO NOT GET ME WRONG...the guys who get a lot of votes do absolutely incredible work -- but it still can be discouraging. It's just really hard to make a name for yourself. What I usually do is I click 'Most Recent' when I vote so I can give some of the newer people a chance. I don't necessarily vote for all of them, but if they do good work, then I try to give them motivation before I give it to the ones who already know that they PWN photoshop. I think what would be best that promotes the point of the site -- to progress one's skills in photoshop -- is for members to give more constructive criticism on creations. These guys who know practically, if not everything about photoshop need to give us newer guys some ideas to make our images better so they can have some competition. Yea, it's fun the just make the image and be proud of it, but it makes it even more fun to battle with others to see who can make the best and the more competition, the better it would feel to win. Just a thought...
