I have a banner that runs at the top of a web page. It's dimensions are 840 x 114.

They have asked me whether I can round the top left and top right hand corners off say by 10 pixels but leave the bottom left and right corners square.

Trouble is when I select all I can't then modify the selection to choose the smooth option.

Anyone able to help me get round this problem ?

Thanks

you could make a selection using the pen, put some guides for precision of your round corners, or if you have illustrator you could do it easily with it then import the shape in ps.

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't have Illustrator but I will give the pen a go.

you could do it in D/W or what ever prog you are using by incerting rounded corners over the banner in the same table, make one to suite the background color, incert>image>top left>duplicate>invert>top right, do them in PS or fireworks to get faded/disolve efect

just select all, smooth, invert selection then use the eraser to get rid of the top corners.

If it's a gif, make sure you change the pic to RGB first, doubl click the background layer to make it a layer, then add a layer under your image (this will make what you erase transparent)

I think my idea might be what Splodge just said - but I'm not sure what Splodge just said, So I'll say what I say.

If you use the SHAPES tool and choose rounded corner rectangle... you can draw a rounded courner box around your banner. In PS you would extend the bottom of the box down past the bottom of your banner, so the bottom corner curves are PAST the actual edge of the picture (You'd have to open up your working window larger than the actual bitmap to do this). Once this is drawn you can convert the path (curved rectangle you just drew) into a selection (CNTRL+ENTER on PC). If you then INVERT the selection you should just have wee little rounded selections in the top right and left corners of your banner.

Then fill them with whatever the background colour is for your wallpaper.

something like this:
