I've created a round color logo that I would like to frame with a circular black outline. I can't seem to figure this out. I've tried the "custom shap tool" which I can pick the "circle thin frame" which I can free transform around my log but its too thick. How can I add this border, simply maybe making a circle in black, with a thickness I can change that I can free transform around my logo. I alway seem to have trouble with circles?? using PS-7

Don't know exactly what you want , but you can create a circle with the SELECTION tool set to circle. You can then adjust and tweak its size and shape by choosing TRAnSFORM SELECTION under SELECT at top of page. When you've finally got it the way you like it SAVE SELECTION (again under SELECT).

Next create a NEW LAYER.

Then you can go to EDIT and choose STROKE. That will give you a pop up box where you can pick any thinkness of line to "trace" around your selection (all choose in , out or on the line placement). Also any colour that you want. So much fun!

If later on you want it thicker or thinner, just erase that layer holding the stroked circle and then LOAD the circle shape you've saved and re-stroke it with something different. This way you can "adjust" the size of the outline later.

photoshop has problems making a perfect circle, i suggest you to use a vector program to do your logos, such as freehand or illustrator.

If you want to make a perfect circle in PS, select the eliptical marquee tool. Under the menu bar, there is a pull down menu called style. Pick "fixed size" and plug in your values. eg: 2" x 2". This will should you a perfectly round selection.

I agree with Supak that if you try to turn this selection into a path, the path will not be perfectly round, but you can stroke and/or fill the selection.

Because the bitmap circle is actually built with square 'bricks' of image, you never get a really smooth circle. It will work for hi-rez stuff quite well, but if you wanna do it right get your hands on a Vector (line) application - illustrator, freehand, corelDraw,

In th end you'll probably want to do a bitmap of your logo anyway, but if you do it at high enough resolution you should be okay.

I used a second layer over top the image and in that layer used the elliptical marquee tool, holding down the shift key to keep the circle perfect, then tranformed it/move it into position and then used the stroke with a size of 8 which put the black border just as I wanted. A little pixelated/blocky when blown up but ok for now.
