TheJackal 07/20 @ 07:00 pm

is it just me or does that dog look a little on the forest gump/rainman side of the intellectual seesaw

Laughing Laughing Laughing Gump? He's named after the volleyball from Castaway! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thanks Mr. I...(etc.Wink) Sorry I just missed you when I got back. Let dog in. Let dog out. Let dog in. Let dog out...

So, back on topic. Okay, haste makes waste. Got it. Any pointers on improving the blown-out parts of my quick pic?

Shocked Bow WOW, SPLODGE!! You completely got rid of the under-exposure / shadow! Did you do more of the erasing of the original as you had described? What settings did you use for lightening/brightening the new layer? You know, getting rid of the over-dark helps the over-light from catching my eye so much. That's so nice of you to do all that and link to a larger size so I can really see it. Would you mind if I saved it? Of course I'm saving your earlier description of what you did and how! Very Happy

same method under the ear, cut out an area that was not in shadow, shaped it the same shape as the ear, put it under the original pic and erased it back, a bit of air brush aceoss the top of the head to cover the over exposure, ofcouse you can keep it, it's your dog Smile

Mr. Green Thank you, splodge! Mr. Green

I'm still interestd, of course, if anyone else has any other suggestions of how to improve a photo like this. Splodge taught me what I wanted to know: at least one way of rescuing the original photo. Are there other hints (besides retaking the photo, thank you very much!)? Would you crop it? Where? Color/hue/saturation? Everyone's tastes are different, so I'm also curious to learn more about what others find aesthetically pleasing in a photo. Smile

thanx marco, you did good, i was dog sitting for my daughters dog last night while she was visiting her mother in hospital, boxer dogs seem to be a family thing, my parents had 2 when i was growing up, her mothers parents had 2 or 3 while she at home, i bought her mother a boxer dog a few years ago, now my daughter has rescued this one from an abusive home, personaly i think they are butt ugly and much prefer afghans, borzois and salukis Very Happy
