Ummm, Hello? Time for a wake up call it would seem. HELLO!!!
At the time of starting this thread, this image had 37 votes. 37 VOTES!
http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/74562/display.html

FOR WHAT??? an idea? This user made no effort what so ever to even use some of the simplest techniques to adjust color or lighting. Why should he be rewarded for such lazy work??

No attention to cutouts, no attention to details like the ropes, and horrendous color matching and lighting. 37 fucking votes. you voters should be ashamed. This kind of encouragement will not help a user strive to do better. With votes like this, why bother?

lets go people!

Well I can't seem to find that post, Mr. Sword. I try entering the URL manually too and I just get the home page.

I'm not sure if this is a joke - but then you do not normally joke (as I've experienced you).

So - I'll check back later and see what this kerfuffle is all about.

(but if it has 37 votes, someone around here must like it) Confused

or

(since it no longer exists someone around here must hate it) Raising Brow

I use this site to practice my skills....and get feed back on my entries. I think too often people get obsessed with winning or votes. Competition is great...but i spend alot of time working on techniques and practicing them over and over again till i get good at them. The other half of this equation is the message or idea that your chop conveys to the viewer. The viewer could be an 8 year old....who takes a look at it and thinks cool...or it could be a geekologist who works for a camera company and very carefully looks at all the work that went into the image/idea. My advice...have a cold beverage....hug your significant other....but have fun in what you do.

I agree with dbbowling.

It's not always the clean chopping that counts. Being creative and original is an other part.
I often wander how the picts look without 'advantage', I mean if everybody have the same little time to create a pic.

For me it's a sport to create things in a short time, so I would never use 'advantage, votes and support are great, but most important is being creative (it's an addict). Wink

I just wonder how you think in any way it was different before the advantage started--
it was exactly the same--a bunch of people who don't work
or can chop at work got to post first--
then everyone else trys to find time at home that night--
plus half the people on PSC live on the other side of the planet and don't
even wake up till 8 hours after the show starts --
so? what's the diff/? aside from the site having zero revenue?
I see this argument all the time and noone
EVER explains how they expect this to make a difference--
so I am very curious.
these new google banner ads are extremely irritating.

Well I often read that people work 3,4 or more hours at one post.
What if you don't have so much spare time.
Wouldn't the picts be different then? It's just a thought!
It's not that important.

Raising Brow ?
Hey, don't go giving me the brow, now.
I wasn't busting on ya.
The really good choppers who really know
their way around PS get done quickly anyway.
For some that was the game--who could post first.
I remember one guy did this as "His thing".
I also remember since he was first, and first to get votes-
well, people complained that he was getting more votes than
chops that were better.
In all fairness IF this site were MAINLY about the contest--
then noone would be voting till all entrys were in, and then
the thumbnail page would randomly display the posted images
in a random pattern, and we'd slip into being Worth1K in no time at all.
Smile

I think there is a subtle point we're forgetting, here. Sometimes we cast encouragement votes, or ha-ha votes, or idea votes, *knowing* that the entry we're voting for isn't going to win. It feels good to get votes, and we are fully aware, when we cast the vote, that we're not going to skew the final contest results by supporting somebody who could use a vote.

Now, I'm not saying I do this constantly, but I definitely do it, and do it with eyes open. We have 25 votes per contest, and there usually aren't 25 perfect chops, on any given day. I think the reason we have so many is so that we can use them as we see fit.

I voted for him because I was hoping to get a vote back...you know, I scratch your back, you scratch mine?

Wait, I didn't even post in that contest, I was busy getting spanked in th H2H.

Never mind. Razz

It's quotes like these that prove my point that the average user these dayas is only interested in votes and not whether their image is actually any good. It proves that users like Matt are not interested in getting better but only hearing praises of astonishment. And god forbid anyone try to point out whats wrong with one image or another.

I did not attack Matt personally, I simply felt his image was much worth much less than the votes it received suggested. And yet, I get a PM from him with the subject "BITCH!!!" and a body that consists of...

Well, way to go MAN, you've proven much of my arguments regarding many here and what their ultimate goal is. Well done.

I don't care what your excuses are for being lazy. If you choose to be lazy and don't care about the details, expect people to complain.
