Anonymous Contest Change

on Sep 13, 2011 @ 2:25 pm, billtvshow wrote:  As many of you already know, PSC now hosts anonymous prize contests on Tuesdays. There was a lot of debate amongst the community about keeping anonymous Thursdays as well, which would, in essence, add an additional anonymous contest per week. We decided to compromise and host non-prize anonymous contests on alternating Thursdays. This schedule change will begin on September 22nd.

However, this Thursday (15th of September) we will be testing a slightly different anonymous format. The format is very similar to the original anonymous format that was used on PSC several years ago, prior to the introduction of prize contests. The following describes what each user (including authors) can and cannot see / do:

CAN see votes & vote comments; CAN see comments; CAN see entry vote totals; CAN sort by vote total;

CAN'T see voter or commenter identities (except for their own); CAN'T see author identities (except for their own)

In other words, it is identical to a daily non-anonymous contest, except that the author and voter/commenter identities are hidden.

We would also like to reemphasize: when you enter an anonymous contest, you are allowed to link to your sources, but they should be linked, hosted, and formatted in a way that does not reveal who you are. Your entry description and any comments you make in the contest should also not contain any hints or remarks as to your identity. We will try to moderate any situations as best we can, however, obvious attempts at breaking anonymity may result in the removal of your entry.

Note: This only affects the Thursday contests. The rules for Tuesday anonymous prize contests will remain unchanged.

Feel free to let us know what you think of the new format when it goes live this Thursday and if you come across any technical problems, feel free to PM Grefix, or a mod, or perhaps send some smoke signals. :)

looks cool ..but wouldn't it be better if ya can't see entry vote totals ..in that way some people actually have to vote on what's good and not on what got the most votes cause i tink that happens to ;) otherwise cool idea :)

I don't really care about that stuff but I do appreciate that the new owners are taking care of business. Bravo!

I have to agree with ReyRey on things getting done around here!

Tom... one of the great deals in the original format is exactly that: to follow the race. If you see an entry on top that doesn't deserve, you don't vote for it so it gets pulled behind the good ones.

If you don't see the votes, you might give that crappy entry an encouragement vote, as many here like to call, and that entry might end up better than one that really deserved.

It happened a lot in the old days... a crappy entry got the 1st place in the first few hours of contest... but by the end of the day, it was in page 2 already.

@supak, gref and the tvguy: implement that damn thing for all contests. You three know it worked fine and much better than any format previously used at psc.
