the meaning of the symbols are in the authors note. I hope they are right after extensive research, I got a couple of conflicting results, so I took the higher ratio to decide. They are meant to be engraved into the road, before the journey begins :o)

Beautiful atmosphere. I speak cantonese and some mandarin, and from what I can tell the sign is upside down and reads "Wong (unintelligable) Tong" so I guess that's her name? The engraved characters say something about "live long and prosper" right?
