Martrex, thanks for the tip. I agree; I've just tried adding a shadow, but I can't make it look authentic for some reason, so I've not updated it. I struggle to combine shadows with reflections :( Any advice gratefully received!

Hi Eve, I made a flat pattern from one of the scales in PS. Then opened the pattern in Illustrator, used the 3D tool to wrap it around a sphere. Then added smoke and lighting in PS. Are we allowed to use Illustrator? Apologies if not!

I shunned this at first. I didn't realize Illustrator can do this. It seemed like cheating somehow. But, if it's in Illustrator, then it will probably become a feature in Photoshop in the near future.

hi gh, I thought that using Illustrator may put some people off; and that's fair enough. But I've seen other software used in other comps, so I thought I'd just go for it. By the way, CS4 Photoshop does handle 3D objects now. I'm using CS3 still thoug
