Thanks for the votes to everyone so far - and aaanen: yes, that's why I went with CMY not RGB - the hoses being for paint/dye... :^)

Meeshoo - you don't have to have K, you can make a sort of black by mixing CM & Y. :^P Admittedly it tends to look a bit muddy, which is why most professional printing includes a solid K (black) too.

Wow, chrispis really knows his stuff. I thought the K was the last letter of Black and was used so people didn't confuse B with Blue. You learn something new everyday.

I never heard chrispis' explanation. I, too, always heard that K was used for black because B was used for blue. Either way, K is black. (I'm not doubting chris, but now I have to call over 100 students with this info!) ;)
