want advice on shadows

I'm not good at shadows either, but a good way is to take an object at home, hold it under the light and watch the shadows.. it helps sometimes.

My method is to duplicate the layer of the man,darken it 100%,then set opacity to 50%,then rotate & skew layer taking cue from the board shadow (on the wood frame) for direction...hope this helps.
