Looking closer, I don't know if the "dissolve" blending option works with the cross. Try using the "Blend If" sliders. Option/Alt-click on the sliders to separate them, and you can get some really cool effects! Just an idea. :)

thanks for the suggestion BG, I tried different blending modes, and found this one to be the best for me, I don't strive for perfection because there is no such thing. What's perfect for me may not be perfect for you or anyone else, so for this site, ..
